Taklimakan Desert, the Biggest Desert of China
Taklimakan Desert, located in southern Xinjiang Province, the Tarim Basin, Taklimakan means “huge” and “wide”, so it means “huge desert” in the Uygur language. The whole desert is more than 1,000 kilometers from east to west, 400 km wide from north to south and with a total area of 337.6 thousand square kilometers, it is China’s largest desert, is also the world’s second largest desert, it is known as the “Taklimakan Desert,” and also the world’s largest the flowing desert. The western and southern part of Taklimakan Desert is 1200 ~ 1500 meters above the sea level, in the eastern and northern part is 800 ~ 1,000 meters above the sea level.
Taklimakan Desert, has an area of 330,000 square kilometers. When one driving in the desert highway just like boating in the sea. What make people feels regret is that the sun sets early in the Taklimakan Desert. However, when one climb up to the Qiaokatage Mountain (red and white mountain) in the Taklimakan Desert which is 1413 meters above the sea level and overlooking the Taklamakan Desert, one can see another kind of scene. One can feel the huge and boundless of Taklamakan Desert, it can give one a feeling of misty and singular power when standing between the dessert and the sky.
