General Gobi, The Legendary Gobi of China

General Gobi is located in the eastern part of Junggar Basin and northern part of Qitai and Jimsar County. It is about 43 kilometers from east to west, 20 kilometers from north to south. In these nearly a thousand square kilometers range, it gathered many wonders of different appearance. General Gobi formed with a multiplicity of large Gobi Desert style tourist area, it is the unique scene of China and rare in the world.

General Gobi get it’s name from a general in Tang Dynasty. In that time, a famous general lead an army of 500 soldiers resisted Western Tujue army in this place, although the general won the war, he was lost in this Gobi with his soldiers, and all of the army died in this Gobi. Many years later, to commemorate the general and his army, people build the General Temple there and the Gobi was called General Gobi.

There is also another famous scenic spot called Devil Town, the full name should be “Nomin Devil Town”. It located in southwestern part of Dinosaur Valley, seven times larger than the famous Urhe Devil Town. this is in fact also “Yardang Landform.” geology. After a long time of  scour by wind and rain it form a variety of strange shapes: human, demon, beasts, buildings,  Pavilion, Castle, bridge and so on. And every time when the wind blows, the Devil Town will be sounds like a big troop come or like devil crying.
