The Tales Devil’s Castle in Wuerhe

Wuerhe Devil’s Castle is also called Wuerhe Windy Castle. It is located at the northwest edge of the Junggar Basin and Jiamu River of Wuerhe mining area, 100 kilometers southwest from the Karamay City. There is a unique wind erosion landscape with a strange shape. The local Mongolians are called this place as “Sulumuhake”, meaning Devil’s Castle.

Wuerhe Decil’s Castle was formed form northwest to southwest, long and width are over 5 km, totaly about 10 square kilometers wide, about 350 m above the sea level. According to investigation, about 100 million years ago, during the Cretaceous, there is a huge lake with many plants growing around, different dinosaurs and other ancient animals are living there, just like a paradise for living things. But then after two major changes with the earth quakes, the lake became a place just sandwiching with sandstone and clay, geology call it “the Gobi platform.”

Because of Wuerhe Devil’s Castle is located at the place with a draught, the wind brows all-year-round. The largest wind power is up to level 10-12. Strong winds also give Wuerhe Devil’s Castle not only a “name”, but also the “shape”. When you visit there, you will find the rocks are have their special shape, some are like tempos, some are like towers and some are like huge mushroom. It will marvel each visitor who have been there.
